HIT 230 - Medical Coding Systems I 3 Hours
Prerequisite: Acceptance into HIT Program Co-Requisite: HIT 221 and HIT 231 This course is intended to develop an understanding of coding and classification systems in order to assign valid medical codes. Instruction includes description of classification and nomenclature system; coding diagnoses and/or procedure; sequencing code; analyzing actual medical records to identify data elements to be coded; and validating coded clinical information. Student competency includes demonstration of coding principles and applications (manual and/or computer-assisted). This is a CORE course.
